thurs thru 12/13: cursed! the power of magic in the ancient world: the institute for the study of the ancient world at new york university (upper east side) presents an exhibition examining the role of magic in ancient societies from 2000 bce and 300 ce, from its integration into religious traditions in mesopotamia and egypt to its association with forbidden or suspicious practices in greece and rome. featuring 50 works in a variety of media, the exhibition features 50 works including stone and bronze sculpture, decorated ceramics, amulets in semiprecious stones, and papyrus scrolls. free admission.
