Little Armenia Cafe
FoodWhy We Think It's JUICY
Chef Ararat El Rawi does absolutely everything at this Greenpoint Armenian cafe, from painting the tricolored walls to taking your order to cooking family recipes to sharing stories you will never forget. The space is lined with vintage family photos, including one of his grandfather (a Genocide survivor who helped Lawrence of Arabia escape) and another of young Ararat with William Saroyan, who his mother boldly invited to dinner in 1970s Minneapolis. The menu features his father's Iraqi-Armenian fusion dishes and his mother's tabbouleh, the same one she served Saroyan, all made with the nerve and curiosity he inherited from his family. Chef Ararat greets every guest with the warmth of an old friend, sharing the story behind each dish and making you feel like you have been welcomed into his home rather than a restaurant.
This is why it made the JUICY list: Chef Ararat's infectious storytelling and genuine warmth transform strangers into friends, where every meal comes with family history, laughter, and the kind of personal connection that makes you leave feeling like you have gained not just a meal but a relationship with someone who truly sees you.
